Kirk Moore "New Works"

30 January - 15 March

Beached by Kirk Moore
Kirk Moore
c. 2007

Moore will be showing current work painted from his home state of Maine and from his travels to France in 2007.

Moore is originally a New Jersey native but moved north to Maine after being captivated by the coastline there. The strength of color and form inherent in his work reflect the clarity of his vision as well as his appreciation of Maine light. He is well known for his waterfront images which may include a raft of dinghies, working boats, docks pilings and bridges.

Moore's repertoire has expanded through his travels to Europe. His renditions of the southern French countryside remind one of Cezanne. Moore's use of color is extremely unique and the French countryside shouts with colors of purple, green and yellow.

Although the paintings all represent a real life object the large blocks of color used to paint the scene allow the viewer to see something beyond the object. Moore is a nice mixture (if one were to compare him to other artists) of the American color block painter from the fifties and the French impresionnistic painter Paul Cezanne. Moore captures a familiar scene in a completely unfamiliar way.
